Featuring Cathy and Rick Cullis
Cathy Cullis has always been fascinated by the beauty and strength of the natural world, so it’s not surprising that her subject of choice is primarily landscape. In her paintings, she seeks to interpret what it was about a particular scene that caught her eye or invoked an emotional response. Nature is just so real, and it can be comforting to connect with that reality, even for just a moment.
Her professional development is self-directed and includes workshops with Canadian and American professional artists. Cathy has attained Master status with PastelArtists.ca (PAC), is a Master Circle member with the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS), and is an Elected Member with the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA). She is a signature member of the Pastel Society of Eastern Canada (PSEC) and an active Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA) member.
Awards include The Duggan Canadian Landscape Award, Society of Canadian Artists (SCA)2023, Honorable Mention, PastelArtist.ca (PAC) 2006, and 2023 Honorable Mention, Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA Toronto) 2022 Juror's Choice Award, North East National Pastel Exhibition 2008.
In addition to two solo exhibitions, her work has appeared over the years in many exhibitions hosted by Pastel Artists.Ca, Society of Canadian Artists, Federation of Canadian Artists (Vancouver & Toronto), Pastel Society of Eastern Canada, International Association of Pastel Societies, Burlington Art Centre, Visual Arts Mississauga, Northeast National Pastel Exhibition, Pastel Society of North Carolina, and Pelham Art Festival.
Rick Cullis has been an Art Teacher and Artist since 1980. Over the years, he has worked in various media, including watercolor, ink, pencil, and acrylics. In 2017, he switched to working exclusively in oil paints. Most of his work is in landscape, although he enjoys the challenge of figure and portrait work.
In 2021, he was granted signature status with the Federation of Canadian Artists, and in 2023, he was accepted as an Elected Member of the Society of Canadian Artists. He is president of the Toronto Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists. Juried exhibits have included the McMaster Innovation Park annual exhibits, Burlington Art Gallery, Society of Canadian Artists annual juried exhibits, Paint Ontario, The Federation of Canadian Artists, and FCA Toronto. Other events have included the Pelham Arts Festival 2021 and 2022, Dundas Valley School of Art's annual auction, and the Little Black Frame Event. In November 2024, he had a solo show at the Niagara Pumphouse.
