Featuring: Barbara Polc
Barbara Polc is a full-time mixed-media artist living in the picturesque lakeside community of Port Colborne, ON. A self-taught painter, she is dedicated to continuous artistic growth, attending the Haliburton School for Art + Design and engaging in international online studies to refine her practice. Her work has been featured in juried exhibitions, art galleries, and private collections and is showcased annually during the South Niagara Artists Studio Tour.
Working with encaustic, oil, and acrylics, Polc explores a diverse range of subject matter, including abstract figurative forms, botanicals, landscapes, and spirit animals. Guided by intuition, her process moves beyond realism, seeking to capture the essence and soul of her subjects. Her art balances color harmony, line, texture, shape, opacity, and translucency, creating layers of depth and emotion.
Much of her work is inspired by childhood memories and emotions, evoking a universal sense of nostalgia and connection. Influenced by the natural elements—Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit—her paintings carry a quiet energy and thoughtful presence. At its core, Polc’s art serves as an invitation to pause, feel, and reflect, bridging the tangible and intangible, the experienced and the imagined.
See how Barbara becomes inspired with your words on her blank canvas to create her next piece of art.
